I Love Rococo Inspired Design

It’s Monday which means I have to post a garment design today. Luckily I am busy with a project for my fashion studies that requires me to design modern garments inspired by a certain era. I chose the Rococo period because it is so fitting to my style. It originated in France in the early 18th century, and was characterized my florals, frills and bows and floral prints!! I found it so inspiring and could have done a bunch more. My first winter collection? I think so!

I am posting the yellow off the shoulder dress as my garment design challenge post for the week on Instagram.

Have a great week!

Spoonflower Shop Now Open

Hi there,

I am very excited to announce that these designs are now available to purchase in Spoonflower. The designs are available on either fabric, wallpaper or gift wrap. Visit our shop and have a look!

So, for this weeks pattern challenge I am uploading the WaterBlossom design to Instagram (#cottonandlovepatternchallenge), just because I havent uploaded it to Instagram before. I am going to start off this challenge these next couple of weeks by adding existing patterns I havent uploaded on Instagram before. This will also help me get ahead with my Daily Motif Challenge work. I must say, a challenge it is indeed, but a great way to explore what type of motifs I like making and what not.

Thats all for today. Hope you have a great weekend.

Happy Creating

Design Challenges Kicked Off Today!!

IMG_5520Hi there.

So, the design challenges kicked off today!!! Please see my previous post if you missed out on the details. Please remember, its never to late to join and there are absolutely no rules. If it inspires you to create, its enough.

Just to remind you I started off my 365 day motif challenge with a class on CreativeBug, Daily Drawing Challenge: 31 Pattern Motifs with Courtney Cerruti. Today the challenge was to create stripes. I love working with watercolor, so I used this in both my challenges today. I wont be posting my daily motifs on the blog, but on Instagram. Be sure to follow me: @cotton_andlove

My garment design inspiration comes from a task I need to complete for my BFA Fashion Degree. The brief is to design 10 garments inspired by a specific period, so I chose the Rococo period. I love the inspiration I am getting from this, because I am really a flower and bow kind of girl 🙂 I love to incorporate these feminine elements into modern, but classic designs like I did in this coat.

I will be featuring my garment designs, pattern repeats and sewing projects on the blog.

Can’t wait to see your designs on Instagram!!

Design Challenges Starting Monday, July 3rd

designchallengeinviteHi everyone,

I have been really stuck lately on getting my work flow going and getting inspired, both with my design work and blog, so I decided to set myself a design challenge every day for 365 days. The challenge is to just draw or paint at least one motif every day. I then thought why not challenge myself to design one repeat pattern each week as well for a year. This is obviously great inspiration for my surface pattern design work, so I thought why not set myself a weekly fashion design challenge too where I will design one garment a week, and sew one garment a month. I thought it would be even greater if I could get people to join me and also inspire you. So, whether you’re a surface pattern designer, fashion designer, student, sewer, or just enjoy being creative, here is definitely a challenge for you to join! This is how it is going to work:

Every Day –  Painted or sketched motif/s #cottonandlove365daychallenge

Mondays – A garment design sketch #cottonandlovegarmentchallenge

Fridays – A repeat pattern #cottonandlovepatternchallenge

Every 1st Day of the Month – A finished sewing project #cottonandlovesewingchallenge

Be sure to post your work on Instagram using the relative hashtag above.

You can use any source of inspiration and create anything you like. The idea is just to motivate and encourage each other and to get in a regular routine of practicing your craft. There are absolutely no rules! You can even decide to just follow along for a week or a month, whatever suits you. You can join in anytime, so don’t be discouraged if you missed the starting dates.

If you want to follow along with me on the daily challenge, I am going to start off by taking design challenge classes on Creativebug, starting with Daily Drawing Challenge: 31 Pattern Motifs with Courtney Cerruti.

I really hope you will be joining me and please feel free to email me with any questions you might have.

Happy Creating!
